Before finding a speakers bureau that fits your market, you must do one important thing. You need to identify and define your market or niche. What is that segment of your industry that you want to focus on? What is the niche that is best suited to your skills? Determining your niche, or segment of the general market, is dependent upon many different factors.
First, you can evaluate your speaking skills. Think about what you might do to enhance your abilities. Next, consider what topics you know a lot about, and then try to pin point the segment of the market that would most likely be interested in hearing a talk on that subject. It is really not that difficult. Let me give you an example to make this idea more clear. Suppose you have just finished watching a science fiction movie, and you fell in love with it instantly. Now you can't wait to share the story and all the details of this movie with someone. Who would you share this experience with? Obviously, you would choose someone who shares a passion for science fiction films like you. So in essence, you have to ask yourself who would spend time and money to hear you talk? This is the first question that should cross your mind.
After you have determined your special niche, you need to find a speakers bureau to fit your market segment. This can feel like a very daunting task and is going to take some time and effort on your part. In order to find a speakers bureau to fit your market, you need to do what you would do when searching any other information. Go online and start searching for the term "speakers bureau". Obviously, the results would be very general, and may pull up more than a million different websites. You probably would not have the time and energy to filter through each one of them. So, the next thing to do is to search for a much narrower and focused keyword like "speakers bureau for inspirational speaking" or "motivational speakers bureau" or "speakers bureau for time management". The keywords you select for your search will be dependent on your niche. Once you have gotten the results from your niche specific search, you will then need to sift through them to find the ones that appear to be most beneficial to you.
Another excellent idea of locating a speaker's bureau is to talk to friends or peers in the public speaking industry to see which speakers bureaus they recommend. This is also a great way to learn more about how a speakers bureau works for the speaker. I also recommend checking out the Speakers Bureau Almanac.
Once you have your short list ready, select the best speakers bureau that caters to your market and to your public speaking need and then contact them. Discuss your requirements with the speakers bureau, and if you are able to agree on the terms, go ahead and register with them.
Keep in mind that in order to have the best chance of being picked up by a first-rate speakers bureau, it will be well worth your time to make sure you have created a professional looking website and done some branding first. The best speakers bureaus are looking for the best speakers. Your online presence is your calling card.
