| Dr. Gary Arnold's Book How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing |
In this article I am going to share 3
outstanding tips on public speaking that I know you will find helpful. If you
incorporate this information into your preparation and presentation you will
improve your skills and further your career as a public speaker.
#1 Outstanding Public Speaking Tip
I would like to share a statement that I once
read. It goes something like this- Prior preparation prevents poor performance.
How true this is! These 5 P's are, without doubt, one of the best public
speaking tips that you will ever get.
Take the time to prepare yourself thoroughly
before your presentation. Knowing that you are well prepared is the only thing
that will help you conquer any fear you might have about facing your audience.
Preparation can be divided in to 3 different
components.
Component 1:
Write down your speech ahead of time.
Research, read about and discuss your topic thoroughly. You should also create
the visuals and illustrations that you will use to enhance your speech. Visuals
will help you hold the interest of your audience.
Component 2:
Spruce up of your appearance. Make sure you
dress professionally. You may even want to get expert advice in this area. You
only get to make a first impression once, so do everything you can to make it a
great one.
Component 3:
Finally, the primary purpose of a speaking gig
is to get yourself, and what you have to offer, in the public eye. With that in
mind, do not neglect the planning of your marketing strategy before your event.
This should include how you plan to market yourself during the event itself. At
the time of the event make sure that you have materials available that include
detailed information about how you can be contacted for future bookings.
#2 Outstanding Public Speaking Tip
Keep your speech short and to the point,
lively and easy to understand. No matter how good your presentation might be,
or how interesting your topic may be, if you do not speak articulately, you
will not be successful. Your audience wants to be entertained and engaged. If
your talk drags on you will lose your audience.
#3 Outstanding Public Speaking Tip
Try to maintain a positive attitude about the
prospect of speaking before an audience. See it as a great opportunity rather
than something you are dreading. If you enjoy the experience your audience will
sense this and share in your enthusiasm.
