The Easiest Route to Becoming a Successful Public Speaker

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

"Nothing succeeds like success", is an idea we have all heard. Becoming a successful person is the goal for nearly everyone. For many achieving success in their career is at the heart of everything they do. Success doesn't come easily; you have to work at it to get there. Becoming a successful public speaker is no different. It takes a lot of time, practice and dedication. After all, overnight success is rare in this field. Skills can be learned and developed and you can become a successful speaker with the help of the following tips designed to guide you in your speaking career.
Tip #1 Public Speaking Success: Think Success!
You need to have talent and lots of confidence to speak in front of people. Because of this public speakers are often known as people with strong personalities and rock-solid confidence. Even if you don't have a lot of confidence in your ability as a speaker today, begin to imagine, and visualize, yourself before your audience, hearing their thundering applause. Don't sell yourself short. Believe in yourself and in your success. Think like a successful speaker. What you tell yourself about your abilities directly relates to how you see yourself and how you will present yourself to others.
Tip #2: Public Speaking Success: Be an Authority
Speak like you've been doing it all your life, and communicate ideas like it's second nature for you. Your credibility, and knowledge of the subject, must grab the attention of your audience, and should be obvious to them. Your mere presence on the stage should command authority in itself. You must be able to establish your expertise and carve out a niche for yourself, in order to be referred to as an authority and expert. Decide what specific subjects you intend to specialize in and clearly target groups of people who are interested in your topic. Becoming a multi-faceted public speaker is admirable, and being able to discuss a wide range of topics may seem like an advantage, but you stand the chance of getting scattered in too many different directions. Staying focused is the best way to gain the knowledge and skills that will set you apart from the pack.
Tip #3: Public Speaking Success: Find New Avenues for Growth and Learning
To be a successful public speaker you should be open to continuous growth and learning. One way to achieve this is by having a true dialogue and meaningful interaction with your audience. Being a successful speaker is more than your ability to give a talk, it also means that you have the ability to listen to your audience. This will help you more than you can imagine. You will get ideas that will help you grow professionally. If you listen, your audience will tell you what went well, what didn't go so well and what they want to know more about. All of this is invaluable information for you as you learn and grow.
Tip #4: Public Speaking Success: Create Marketing Materials
Sharing your knowledge and expertise as a public speaker, through the creation of marketing materials, is an essential part of becoming a successful speaker. A few examples of these include ebooks and instructional CD's and videos. These materials not only advance you as an expert, but also help you get future speaking engagements. It is a great way to reach a wider audience and future clients. Creating marketing materials has the added bonus of opening new income streams for you.

3 Criteria All Motivational Speeches Should Meet

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

Motivational speeches can be many things, but if it meets these important criteria it is sure to spell success.
Criterion #1 that all motivational speeches must meet:
The person who is trying to motivate and inspire the audience has to come across as an honest and reliable person. His talk must be truthful and sincere. Insincere and artificial sounding talk will be obvious to the audience and not achieve the desired results. Would you be motivated by a person whose talk is obviously not who they present themselves to be and had no depth? If you don't mean what you say, then your audience will sense it immediately. If you make a negative impression on your audience, then that is the reputation you will create.
Criterion #2 that all motivational speeches must meet:
Humor truly is the best medicine. People love to laugh. Chances are, the speakers who are most memorable to you are those who conveyed their message and were able to do it with humor. Motivational speeches should contain a good bit of humor. After all, motivation is all about uplifting the audience, and what better way than with humor?
But aware that humor can become a double-edged sword. If you do not use it cautiously, and end up making inappropriate jokes that don't enhance your topic then your public speaking career could be doomed. Have you heard about the speaker who told a derogatory joke about a Rabbi to an audience that was predominantly Jewish? To avoid such an awkward and embarrassing situation, some background information about your audience. Also find out about any sensitive issues that both the audience and the organizers who invited you to speak may be sensitive to.
When using humor in your talk, learn to find the balance between the more serious points you want to make and a light-hearted demeanor and presentation. You don't want to come across as an insensitive air-head.
Criterion #3 that all motivational speeches must meet:
Include practical anecdotes from your own life. The audience will be able to relate to you as a regular person who has been through and overcome tough times. This will help you develop an instant rapport with your audience. Your audience has to be able to identify with you if you are going to create a genuine connection with them. There is nothing more inspiring for the audience, than to realize that the person who is standing in front of them has actually made it through and become successful. They will get the feeling that if you can go through what you did and came out on the other side successfully they will believe they can too. That is the name of the game for motivational speaking. The objective is always to help others see beyond their current situation and see themselves enjoying more successful and happy times.
Some speakers make up stories of struggle to impress the audience. This is not necessarily the worst thing to do, but as with humor, you need to be sure that your story is not too far from reality. No one wants to be lied to. If you grew up as a trust fund baby, don't try to sell a story of your childhood in poverty. It won't fly. If you need to slightly embellish a true event in your life do so with caution. Overdoing it will not come across as authentic. Don't go overboard and never let the audience doubt your integrity.

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Who doesn't enjoy listening to a talk show on the radio? Time flies when you are busy listening to a radio talk show guest who is entertaining and sharing their knowledge. Radio is still thought to be one of the most dynamic forms of entertainment and communication. Even in the age of the Internet, radio audiences have not declined. The only thing that has changed is that people now tune into Internet radio stations rather than standard radio. Many standard radio stations can also be listened to on the Internet as well as on a radio. New smart phone apps make listening to many radio stations through the phone possible. So even with the development of new technology people continue to tune in to the radio for news, entertainment and information. In fact, with the many Internet radio stations now online there are more guest appearance opportunities than ever.

A radio talk show provides many wonderful opportunities for you to promote a product or service, an idea or even an ideology. You can also appear on shows all over the country without ever leaving home. Radio interviews are very often done over the phone.
There are just a few simple tips that you should keep in mind if you want to make your radio appearance a memorable one.
You as a Radio Talk Show Guest
Preparing to be a radio talk show guest may seem stressful, particularly if it's your first time on the air. However, it can be very exciting as well. It is perfectly normal to be nervous but you can get over the jitters in no time if you do the necessary preparation before you go on the air. First, you should provide plenty of information about yourself and what you intend to discuss to the radio talk show host. Give them a short bio that describes your lifework and any other pertinent information.
Things to remember as a radio talk show guest
As a radio talk show guest it is important to prepare a brief introductory statement, and provide the radio host with questions that you want to be asked, well in advance. Do not allow anxiety, or "radio fright", to get the best of you or your show will not go over well. Be confident and exude an air of authority in what you have to say. Always remember to talk slowly and clearly so listeners can follow and understand what you say.
You Are An Effective Radio Talk Show Guest If...
You are an effective radio talk show guest if you have served the purpose of the radio show by providing helpful information and entertaining the listeners. You could become a well-respected guest who is sought-after by radio hosts, if you spice up your talk show with humorous anecdotes and examples. Be natural and spontaneous and put the audience's interests first.
Being a radio talk show guest is fun and a great way to overcome fear of public speaking while honing your public speaking skills. Landing radio interviews is also a great way to get the word out about the other products and services you have to offer. In a relatively short interview you can reach thousands of listeners.

Tips for Creating a 5 Phase Product Funnel

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

You may have heard the term product funnel, but do you know the exact meaning of this term? Product funnel is a relatively new marketing technique. So those without a marketing background may not be familiar with it.
A product funnel is basically a series of products that you offer that range from free, or very cheap, all the way to continuity sales. The idea is to bring the customer into your funnel with free or very inexpensive items and then continue to offer them increasingly higher-end products and then ultimately you want to offer ongoing subscriptions or a membership site. The final phase of your product funnel is what provides you a continuous, steady flow of income.
List of Possible Products In the Product Funnel:
Now let us take a look at how speakers can create a product funnel. There are many different products that speakers can provide in addition to their speeches and seminars.
Offering an ebook is a powerful marketing strategy. There is a long list of possibilities in this category. For example, you can write eBooks that offer public speaking tips and guidance to other speakers, eBooks that are motivational, eBooks that offer marketing strategies for speakers, eBooks that describe ways to enhance a speech using tools like PowerPoint, eBooks that offer suggestions for selecting a speakers bureau or an eBook that guides other public speakers in the proper selection of a good speakers bureau. The possibilities are endless.
Other products that public speakers can offer in their product funnel include audio CD's, downloadable video, DVD's, books, educational courses about how others can become successful public speakers, teleseminars and podcasts.
Managing the product funnel
The most important aspect of managing a product funnel lies in the timing and the proper sequencing of offers to the prospective buyer. This means that you must have a clear marketing plan before you attempt product funnel marketing.
5 phases of Product Funnel Marketing:
1) First, create a squeeze page. A squeeze page is a webpage that is designed with the sole purpose of acquiring the email addresses of targeted subscribers. Your squeeze page should offer something free of charge. This freebie could be a free eBook, a free ecourse, a free CD, a free report or a free newsletter.
2) After the visitor has signed up to get the free product and you have captured their email address; you can follow-up with weekly or monthly newsletters that advertise your products and services in the low to moderate budget range. Do not advertise any product that exceeds $30 in this phase of the product funnel.
3) The third level may include a public speaking home study course for $139 or a series of teleseminars for $39 each.
4) The fourth level may suggest a "boot camp" type product for $299.
5) Finally, you might offer your one-on-one coaching or public speaking services for $500+.
The product prices mentioned here are merely one example of how the products should be categorized, and in no way suggest the exact rates that you should price your products or services.

Motivational Speakers Will Remain in High Demand

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

Motivational speakers are public speaking professionals who focus on motivating and inspiring their audience through their talks. Who does not need some motivation at one time or another in their life? Most of us could do with a daily dose of motivation, whether it relates to losing some of the extra pounds or for living the life of our dreams. For that reason, motivational speakers will never run out of opportunities.
Two Types of Motivational Speakers
There are different types of motivational speakers, depending upon the industry that they choose to work in. For instance, there are business speakers who focus exclusively on inspiring and encouraging a certain category of business professionals. For instance, they might target management professionals or MLM executives. Another example is educational motivational speakers who motivate and inspire classroom teachers.
A second type are personal motivational speakers who choose to speak to individual groups of people, for instance a cancer patients group, drug rehab group or group of students.
The criteria for being an excellent motivational speaker:
· Regardless of the field of work that they choose, motivational speakers need to have certain basic traits and characteristics. One important trait that they can't afford to be without is a sunny and positive mental outlook. How could you motivate others if you habitually look at the dark side of things?
· Another important trait that you need is self-confidence. This is one characteristic that the audience expects. They are seeking someone with a self-confident attitude to inspire them and help them solve their problems.
· You have to be likeable, and must come across as a person with a pleasant and affable demeanor.
· People must get the feeling that they can trust you to inspire them and give them the boost they are looking for. You will gain their trust only if you give the impression you are a highly accomplished person and an expert at what you do.
· A sympathetic approach towards the audience is something that will help them connect to you right away. And once they connect to you, your speech need not be elaborate in design to motivate the audience.
· Never display a pompous attitude, because the moment the audience feels that you are underestimating their capabilities, your career as a motivational speaker is doomed.
Various career prospects for motivational speakers
Motivational speakers are hired in almost every industry. Companies and organizations frequently arrange seminars and workshops for their employees and members. These seminars are usually scheduled once or twice a year. The aim of the company is to get both their old and new employees fired up and motivated. Sales oriented organizations may have monthly or even weekly workshops where the basic framework of the business is focused on the go-getter attitude of the sales executives.
So regardless of the state of the rest of the world, motivational speakers will always be in demand and will enjoy a booming business.

Practice makes for a perfect presentation. Always look for opportunities to improve your presentation skills by volunteering to speak during staff meetings at work or at your church or civic organization. Your website is your online portfolio, and it is the first step in connecting with current and prospective clients. Make sure that you include only information that highlights the very best of your skills on the site. How Speakers Can Use Article Marketing to Boost Their Business

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

What does article marketing have to do with public speakers? This is a frequently asked question for those who aren't familiar with Internet marketing. Let's keep things simple. What is best way to attract more business? The answer, of course, is "marketing". Marketing is the key to success for any business and speakers are no exception. Speakers, you must think of yourself as a business. As the Internet becomes more and more crucial to a business's success, learning how to make the most of marketing strategies, geared specifically to driving traffic to your website, is critical.
Article marketing is one of the best ways to drive traffic towards your website, and your website is your online shop. More traffic means more customers or at least more potential customers. Article marketing can also help you establish yourself as a subject matter expert. Marketing your expertise in your niche by writing articles is an important part of making a name for yourself as a speaker, and reinforcing your brand identity.
First Step in Article Marketing:
Not surprisingly, the first step in article marketing is the creation of articles. You can either write them on your own or if you find that tedious, lack the skills, or are short on time; you can hire professional article writers who will ghost write them for you. Either way, you need to ensure that the articles are high quality. It is quality that counts, and builds your online reputation.
Here are some key points to keep in mind with regard to the quality for effective article marketing:
· Articles should be free of errors; grammatical, spelling, factual or otherwise.
· Only original, unique and fresh content should be used.
· Articles must grab the attention of the readers.
· The titles of the articles should generate curiosity and interest to encourage the reader
to continue reading.
· The major focus of article marketing is on keywords. Each of your articles should use relevant keywords that are targeted towards your speaking business and your particular niche. Be sure that you use long tail keywords, which are much better than short ones.
· In addition to keyword placement, using them at optimum density should also be a prime concern. Keyword density should be no higher than 3%.
Incorporating all of those ideas is only part of the equation for effective article marketing. You must also be aware of the things to avoid, if you really want to succeed. Some of these DONT'S for article marketing include:
· Never, ever go overboard on self-promotion.
· Eliminate hype, bragging and repetition of ideas.
· Don't overlook the importance of inserting a call to action in the summary of the article.
· Don't forget to focus on the marketing aspect, because that was your aim in beginning article writing in the first place.
· Don't underestimate the importance of the resource or author's box. It may not seem that important, but it can most certainly be the doorway to your business. Insert 1 or 2 links within it, but no more.
· Don't make the mistake of writing long drawn-out sentences. Keep them short and concise.
· Never lump all of the information together in lengthy paragraphs; instead use bullets or numbering to make the article easily readable and inviting to the eye.
After you have written your articles, submit them to article directories such as EzineArticles.com. If you do a Google search for article directories you will find many. I recommend that rather than spreading yourself too thin, just go for the top 10 directories. These big guys will be able take care of all your article marketing needs and help to send valuable traffic to your site in no time.

Before you take the stage, be sure you are well equipped for the task by learning from these 4 useful tips on how to become a motivational speaker.
#1 Understanding What a Motivational Speaker Does:
A motivational speaker is a person who has the ability to inspire and instill a sense of enthusiasm in the audience. He or she helps people to feel motivated and helps them exceed and excel at what they do or would like to do. A motivational speaker helps people believe in themselves and instills a sense of confidence that they too can be successful.

Do you have a confident and positive attitude? A motivational speaker must possess tremendous self-confidence and optimism, all wrapped in a charismatic package.
#3 Know Your Topic Perfectly
Before you begin to speak, learn all you can on your topic. Become a subject matter expert.
Knowing your topic thoroughly also includes finding and learning inspirational quotes and sayings.
It is also important to know who your audience is. You must have a deep understanding of the concerns and challenges of your audience if you are going to be able to relate to them in a meaningful way. For instance, if you are planning to motivate a group of business executives, then you had better know the details of the kind of work they do. Similarly, if you are going to speak to group of students, you need to adapt your speech to match the preferences and outlook of this group. You should know what inspires people, and how you can best get that information across to your particular audience.
It is helpful to learn about great leaders and well-known personalities who have mastered excellent motivational skills. Learning from others will be helpful in creating a successful career.
#4 Get a Mentor
Once you have done your homework and are familiar with the basic work of a motivational speaker; you are ready to get yourself an excellent mentor. Selecting a mentor is not something that should be done in haste. Investigate, explore and verify credentials before you act. Ideally, a mentor should be an expert and skilled motivational speaker, who is not only popular with an excellent reputation, but is also someone to whom you can relate. He or she should have the time and willingness to guide you on your way to becoming a successful motivational speaker. Stay away from self-proclaimed experts, and so-called mentors, who have failed in their own attempts to improve their careers. These people are often on the prowl to make some quick money by fleecing newbies like you.

Everything You Need To Know About How to Be a Guest Speaker

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

Becoming a guest speaker is not necessarily an easy thing to accomplish, but with a little help and lots of determination; you can get there. Before we get examine the basics, let's look at the kind of work that guest speakers do in general.
Guest speakers are invited to give a talk on particular topics. This includes talks such as keynote speeches and motivational speeches. Becoming a guest speaker is not particularly easy. And it is not because of the complexity of the work that the speaker will do. The difficulty lies in getting the opportunity to speak. As a speaker you have to wait for the opportunity to be invited to events.
Making a name for yourself, and promoting your expertise and talent, requires extraordinary marketing skills. Self-promotion is tough for many people. Try to imagine yourself in the client's shoes for a bit. Would you choose a guest speaker who may not be popular or famous when you could just as easily have access to many other well-liked speakers? The answer is--probably not. Therefore, what you must do as a speaker is to find a way to stand out from the crowd. You will have to build a reputation for yourself before you can expect to receive invitations from companies or organizations.
You have to be very careful about how you package your talents and public speaking skills. Personal branding is a very crucial issue and it should be done only after seriously considering all aspects of how the brand will reflect who you are and what you have to offer. Whatever brand image you decide to go with, make sure that you do so only after you have given it considerable thought. I am repeating myself here to emphasize that your personal branding can make or break your career as a guest speaker. Your branding is like a sound bite that identifies who you are, and what you do, quickly and effectively.
You want to present yourself as an expert on your topic and in your niche. For example, if you make a name for yourself as an expert at motivating young people, then you can be sure that schools or colleges in your area would rather send an invitation to you over a celebrity speaker who is not familiar with students and their special needs. A thorough knowledge of your niche is indispensable. Life often feels like a struggle. People are always trying to overcome the challenges of life. As we go through life, this is a reality that we have to face. Often, goals that you have set for yourself may seem unreachable. But this isn't true. One great way to find direction in life is to listen to an excellent motivational speaker.
Motivational Speaking: Basic ideas and understanding
Motivational speaking is speaking with the goal to inspire, encourage and cheer up audience members. The word motivation is defined as a driving force or a stimulus, which leads people to achieve their goals in a successful manner.
A motivational speaker can encourage the audience to make life-changing decisions and set goals. Motivational speakers are a rare breed and the reason is clear; it isn't every day that we come across someone who can move us into action to pursue our dreams.
Motivational Speaking: Who Needs It Most
The need for, and the importance of, motivational speaking stems from the fact that people, of all walks of life, at one time or another, need motivation and guidance. Young people and college students are on top of this list, because they are standing at a crossroad in life as they make career and college decisions.
Young adults, professionals, ambitious entrepreneurs, actors, executives, sales professionals, teachers, engineering professionals, management executive; the list goes on and on. There is no industry or person that does not benefit from an occasional dose of motivation from a speaker.
This is one of the most important reasons why motivational speakers thrive and are making their presence felt at universities, schools, colleges, churches, facilities treating those struggling with addiction, business organizations and at all kinds of work places around the globe.
Motivational speaking topics are varied and are often very specific. But the most common subjects center around motivating students to value school and education, along with the selection of a career or vocation. Motivational speakers encourage their listeners to stay away from drugs and other destructive habits, and develop leadership and positive qualities. Motivational speakers are also in demand in the corporate and business world to help motivate people to be successful in business, and to achieve their career or business goals.
Motivational Speaking and the Motivational Speaker
There are no specific certificates or formal training required to be a motivational speaker. However, solid public speaking skills always comes in handy, as well as the ability to influence the audience and move them toward positive action. Motivational speaking is a skill that must be learned and developed in order to truly excel in the field.
When you establish a solid reputation as a motivational speaker, it can be a lucrative career. Motivational speakers are in demand particularly at college events and corporate training programs. The opportunities in these areas are endless and rewarding.

Find a Speakers Bureau for Your Market in 3 Simple Steps

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

Before finding a speakers bureau that fits your market, you must do one important thing. You need to identify and define your market or niche. What is that segment of your industry that you want to focus on? What is the niche that is best suited to your skills? Determining your niche, or segment of the general market, is dependent upon many different factors.
First, you can evaluate your speaking skills. Think about what you might do to enhance your abilities. Next, consider what topics you know a lot about, and then try to pin point the segment of the market that would most likely be interested in hearing a talk on that subject. It is really not that difficult. Let me give you an example to make this idea more clear. Suppose you have just finished watching a science fiction movie, and you fell in love with it instantly. Now you can't wait to share the story and all the details of this movie with someone. Who would you share this experience with? Obviously, you would choose someone who shares a passion for science fiction films like you. So in essence, you have to ask yourself who would spend time and money to hear you talk? This is the first question that should cross your mind.
After you have determined your special niche, you need to find a speakers bureau to fit your market segment. This can feel like a very daunting task and is going to take some time and effort on your part. In order to find a speakers bureau to fit your market, you need to do what you would do when searching any other information. Go online and start searching for the term "speakers bureau". Obviously, the results would be very general, and may pull up more than a million different websites. You probably would not have the time and energy to filter through each one of them. So, the next thing to do is to search for a much narrower and focused keyword like "speakers bureau for inspirational speaking" or "motivational speakers bureau" or "speakers bureau for time management". The keywords you select for your search will be dependent on your niche. Once you have gotten the results from your niche specific search, you will then need to sift through them to find the ones that appear to be most beneficial to you.
Another excellent idea of locating a speaker's bureau is to talk to friends or peers in the public speaking industry to see which speakers bureaus they recommend. This is also a great way to learn more about how a speakers bureau works for the speaker. I also recommend checking out the Speakers Bureau Almanac.
Once you have your short list ready, select the best speakers bureau that caters to your market and to your public speaking need and then contact them. Discuss your requirements with the speakers bureau, and if you are able to agree on the terms, go ahead and register with them.
Keep in mind that in order to have the best chance of being picked up by a first-rate speakers bureau, it will be well worth your time to make sure you have created a professional looking website and done some branding first. The best speakers bureaus are looking for the best speakers. Your online presence is your calling card.

4 Ways to Overcome the Fear of Speaking in Public

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing
Paperback: ISBN:978-1-57867-041-3; eBook: ISBN:978-1-57867-043-7

Does the stage frighten you? Well, that is nothing to feel embarrassed about, because you are not alone. In fact, for many individuals, even the fear of death is not as great as the fear of speaking in front of a live audience. Did you know that many famous personalities and celebrities have admitted to being terribly frightened by taking the stage and being the center of attention? So, it is not that accomplished speakers do not experience fear, but that they have learned to overcome the fear of speaking in public. Here are 4 ways you too can overcome your fear of public speaking.
#1 Face your fear.
The first step in overcoming any fear is to face it. It is common knowledge that the mind tends to develop fear in conjunction with anything that is new or unfamiliar. So begin to immerse yourself in public speaking by learning more about it, and beginning to practice at home or in a safe environment. That is the way to ease the fear, and it is certainly the stepping stone to all other ways to overcome the fear of speaking in public.
#2 Take baby steps in the beginning.
Small beginnings are best, and will definitely help boost your self-confidence. Do not attempt to face a huge audience in the beginning. Start with a small group of people, say about 3 or 4. Another method of ensuring that you do not fail in front of the audience is to choose your audience carefully. Begin by speaking to a small group of people, with whom you feel comfortable and relaxed. You may want to start with members of your family and your friends first.
Once you gain confidence in this small and comfortable group, you can gradually go on to a larger audience. While increasing the size of your audience, it will be helpful if you begin to include strangers. By taking these small steps you will find that you will become increasingly comfortable in front of an audience.
#3 Practice, practice, practice.
No doubt you have heard the old saying, "Practice makes perfect." Now is the time to start implementing it. No skill can be perfected without practice, and lots of it.
Begin with your bathroom mirror. Imagine your audience is seated within the mirror and start rehearsing your speeches there. Once you develop a bit of self-confidence by doing this, slowly graduate to rehearsing mock speeches in front of your family members. Ask them to give you an honest rating each time they hear you speak. Accept, and welcome, all suggestions that they give to improve your speaking skills. If you have access to a video recorder, record your speech and then view it. This can be an invaluable tool for enhancing your skills and overcoming your fears.
#4 Acknowledging your progress will help you stay the course.
While in the process of overcoming your fear of public speaking, it is important to avoid being harsh with yourself. Remember that you are not alone in experiencing these feelings; in fact, they are universal so welcome to the club. Beating yourself up will not serve you on your path toward becoming an accomplished, confident speaker.
Do you know the major difference between a successful person and an unsuccessful one? It has nothing to do with extra talent, ability or luck. The unsuccessful person gives up when first attempts don't come easily, while the successful person perseveres until their goal is reached. So keep trying, don't give in to the temptation to give up. Success may be just around that next corner-reach for it!

3 Outstanding Tips For Speakers

Dr. Gary Arnold's Book
How the Top 1% of Speakers and Coaches Do Internet Marketing

In this article I am going to share 3 outstanding tips on public speaking that I know you will find helpful. If you incorporate this information into your preparation and presentation you will improve your skills and further your career as a public speaker.
#1 Outstanding Public Speaking Tip
I would like to share a statement that I once read. It goes something like this- Prior preparation prevents poor performance. How true this is! These 5 P's are, without doubt, one of the best public speaking tips that you will ever get.
Take the time to prepare yourself thoroughly before your presentation. Knowing that you are well prepared is the only thing that will help you conquer any fear you might have about facing your audience.
Preparation can be divided in to 3 different components.
Component 1:
Write down your speech ahead of time. Research, read about and discuss your topic thoroughly. You should also create the visuals and illustrations that you will use to enhance your speech. Visuals will help you hold the interest of your audience.
Component 2:
Spruce up of your appearance. Make sure you dress professionally. You may even want to get expert advice in this area. You only get to make a first impression once, so do everything you can to make it a great one.
Component 3:
Finally, the primary purpose of a speaking gig is to get yourself, and what you have to offer, in the public eye. With that in mind, do not neglect the planning of your marketing strategy before your event. This should include how you plan to market yourself during the event itself. At the time of the event make sure that you have materials available that include detailed information about how you can be contacted for future bookings.
#2 Outstanding Public Speaking Tip
Keep your speech short and to the point, lively and easy to understand. No matter how good your presentation might be, or how interesting your topic may be, if you do not speak articulately, you will not be successful. Your audience wants to be entertained and engaged. If your talk drags on you will lose your audience.
#3 Outstanding Public Speaking Tip
Try to maintain a positive attitude about the prospect of speaking before an audience. See it as a great opportunity rather than something you are dreading. If you enjoy the experience your audience will sense this and share in your enthusiasm.
